Femoral Triangle Floor
These muscles make up the floor of the femoral triangle.
Femoral triangle floor. Medial boundary is formed by the medial border of adductor longus. However the majority state that it is the medial border of the adductor longus and this is definition we have gone with. We ve got arteries veins nerves and lymphatics. The following structures are contained within the femoral triangle from lateral to medial.
We ve got a few things that pass through the femoral triangle. Name the structures forming boundaries of femoral triangle. Apex is present where sartorius overlaps adductor longus. The rest of this muscle forms part of the floor of the triangle.
Laterally we ve got the femoral branch of the genitofemoral nerve. The femoral triangle contains some of the major neurovascular. The femoral triangle is important as a number of vital structures pass through it right under the skin. Posteriorly the base of the femoral triangle is formed by the pectineus iliopsoas and adductor longus muscles.
Some sources consider the lateral border of the adductor longus to be the medial border of the femoral triangle. The floor is gutter shaped since all the muscles forming the floor pass to the posterior aspect of the femur. Anteriorly the roof of the femoral triangle is formed by the fascia lata. It is a triangular depression located below the inguinal ligament in the upper 1 3rd of front of thigh.
The roof of the femoral triangle consists of skin superficial and deep fascia fascia lata cribiform fascia of the the thigh. The floor of the femoral triangle is comprised of the adductor longus pectineus medially psoas major and illiacus muscles laterally. The rest of this muscle forms part of the floor of the triangle. Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh it crosses the lateral angle of the triangle runs on the lateral side of the thigh and ends by dividing into anterior and posterior branches.
