Fish Tank Weight Distribution 2nd Floor
A standard 75 gallon filled 75 gallon aquarium weighs about 800 lbs considering water weight the weight of the glass enclosure and the weight of the rocks and decorations at the bottom of the tank.
Fish tank weight distribution 2nd floor. You have nothing to worry about. If you are buying such a tank the volume in gallons will already be specified and you can use the charts above to calculate the empty and full weight of the tank. An aquarium stand with a continuous runner at the bottom will distribute the weight a lot better than a stand with just four legs. Depends upon exactly where you put it and a good understanding of your house structure.
Unless your joists are way out of code. I have a 2nd story rec room measuring 24 18 in an all brick house built in 2011. Any floor that is rated for humans and their furniture is more than capable of handling a 65 gal fish tank. I would think you d be ok to do a 50 gallon tank after all 415 pounds is like two people standing side by side in the same spot which i m sure your floor can handle.
I would like to put a 12 6 ft billiards table which stands on 8 legs and weighs approx. Typical new home manufactured floor trusses only good for 10 pounds per square foot in a large room and maybe as much as 20 pounds per square foot in a small. And the closer to the wall the aquarium can be positioned the more total weight in pounds the floor joists can support. The less surface area of the floor it takes up per gallon the higher the danger would be.
The weight of the stand is typically around 100 lbs and needs to be sturdy enough to hold the full weight of the tank itself. The rec room is the only room on the 2nd floor and contains attic access and a full bath. 2755 lbs in the center of the room. Is this a high tank or a long tank.
A 50 gallon fish tank will have the same weight measurements whether it is. Water weighs about 8 3 pounds per gallon. In addition to basic rectangles fish tanks may be in the shape of hexagons pentagons or even cylinders. Typical tank tables have only 4 legs but even that means 200 pounds per leg which is on the order of a person standing on one foot.
